Let Me Buy You a Drink
Posted on April 2nd, 2012.
After the most frustrating day of kids screaming, ketchup destroying your white tee, coming outside to a flat tire, the boss micromanaging in your ear, the lady at the restaurant getting your order wrong, and then your significant other didn’t call as promised, it’s so easy to just relax by taking a visit to the local watering hole for happy hour to sip your cares away.
But as we were reminded yesterday, we can’t go to anything other than God to get what we need. Anything that lures us away from our relationship with Christ is temptation. Even though temptation will come, God has already given you the strength to endure it before He delivers you from it.
So don’t forget that we can’t win unless we fight. We can’t know we can conquer unless we’re up against Goliath with only a rock. We don’t know how far spiritually we have come unless we’re tested. We have to get in the ring to get the championship title, but since God is for you, He’s more than the world against you. You are fighting in a fixed fight because Jesus has already overcome the world!
And don’t forget to support our Alcoholism Awareness Town Hall Meeting at the D-Spot on Saturday at 10 AM. We need your participation for the movement to gain momentum.
We have this profound scripture—what do you think about it? Tell us in the comments below:
Proverbs 23.29-35
Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife?
Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?
Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper. Your eyes will see strange sights, and your mind will imagine confusing things. You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging. “They hit me,” you will say, “but I’m not hurt! They beat me, but I don’t feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?”
